What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting uses a high-pressure water hose and directional nozzle to wind through a pipe and find blockages of any kind. The directional nozzle sprays highly pressurized water in all directions to ensure that every surface of the pipe wall is completely clean. Hydro jetting has been around as a practice for many years but, until recently, it was not available to homeowners or smaller businesses due to the high price of the equipment required. Depending on the application, hydro jetters use water pressure from 1,800 to 5,000 PSI to blast away debris and residue. There are different styles of hydro jetter nozzles that are customized to each type of task or clog, which means that hydro jetters are able to accomplish nearly any pipe cleaning job.

The Advantages of Hydro Jetting

Unlike chemical cleaners, hydro jetters do not introduce harmful substances into a pipe or waterline. Because water is the only means by which clogs are destroyed, hydro jetting is an environmentally friendly plumbing practice. Hydro jetting can be used to break apart nearly any type of clog and it can also be used to clean out grease, grime, or dirt in pipes. Unlike plumbing snakes, which merely punch a hole in clogs, hydro jetters fully remove blockages and debris, returning pipes to a like-new state.

Water pressure needs to be regulated to suit the type of pipe being unclogged or cleaned, as too much pressure can wear down pipes and make them more susceptible to bursting or collapsing.
